Webnet Elevates Rooftop Sports Field Design at St. Luke’s School in New York

In bustling New York City, open space is a luxury many schools can’t afford. The rooftops of school buildings, however, offer a promising solution. These expansive spaces can be transformed into playgrounds or sports areas, with the right safety barriers and fencing.

St. Luke’s School in New York sought to both secure and beautify its rooftop sports field. Enter Webnet. This high-quality stainless steel mesh not only promises top-tier security but also maintains the breathtaking transparency, letting students and staff gaze upon the iconic New York skyline.

Beyond just safety, Webnet has earned its badge of approval from building authorities as a protective net against falls. On St. Luke’s rooftop, it doubles as a ball catcher. One unique feature? The mesh remains quiet upon impact, a notable improvement over traditional wire mesh fencing.

 

Design & Execution:
St. Luke’s rooftop sports field boasts a comprehensive coverage of Webnet stainless steel mesh. Large areas of the front sides are elegantly draped with Webnet elements. Surrounding the main roof, fence elements set within Inviss-C frames add a touch of modern design. The architectural mastermind behind this design? Marble Fairbanks. Execution of the metal construction and integration of Webnet was seamlessly handled by H&L Ironworks.

The precision with which Jakob Rope Systems delivered the Webnet elements and Inviss-C frames ensured the on-site installation process was smooth and efficient.

Railing/Staircase Sections: Inviss-C (1.18 x 1.18 inches), with Webnet (rope diameter 0.059 inches, mesh size 1.57 inches).
Rooftop Coverage: Webnet (rope diameter 0.059 inches, mesh size 2.36 inches) and ropes (0.31 inches) with Vissline external thread and suspension rope clamps.
