A Staircase Reimagined with Color and Safety
In the heart of Canada, McMaster University’s staircase has undergone a transformation that marries safety with a burst of color. Jakob Rope Systems, in partnership with “Rope and Cable Canada,” has redefined what it means to secure a space without sacrificing style.

Safety Can Be Vibrant
The challenge was clear: retrofit an existing staircase to meet the latest safety standards while embracing the university’s vibrant identity. The solution? Jakob’s stainless steel ropes, now presented in an array of six different RAL colors, creating a safety barrier that’s as visually appealing as it is functional.

Design and Execution Excellence
The design, a collaborative brainchild of Diamond Schmitt Architects, and the precise metalwork by Sixpenny of Toronto, showcases the seamless integration of form and function. The project features 210 stainless steel ropes, each 5 millimeters in diameter, covering a total length of 5011 meters, ensuring the staircase is both a secure and standout feature of the university.
