The Balmberg Rope Bridge

Crafted by Jakob Rope Systems, this engineering marvel blends seamlessly into the natural landscape, offering a spectacular panorama of the Bernese Oberland.

Nestled in the scenic landscape near Solothurn, the newly opened “Gschliff” rope bridge on the Balmberg stands as a beacon of architectural and engineering innovation. Jakob Rope Systems is proud to have played a pivotal role in bringing this project to fruition, offering a unique blend of lightweight design and natural integration.

A Bridge Like No Other
The Balmberg rope bridge is not just a structure; it’s a statement. It’s the canton of Solothurn’s only rope bridge, providing spectacular views and a safe passage across the “Gschliff” rockfall zone, rekindling the spirit of adventure on the Jura Höhenweg No. 5 trail.

The Making of a Marvel
Our collaboration with the Emch+Berger Group allowed us to plan, deliver, and install a structure that is both aesthetically pleasing and functionally superior. The bridge’s simple yet sophisticated rope construction, featuring stainless steel suspension and tension ropes along with Webnet railing infill, exemplifies our approach to sustainable and durable design.

A Testament to Teamwork
The successful completion of the rope bridge was made possible through the efforts of our partners, including Gasser Felstechnik AG for the foundational work and the Canton of Solothurn as the client. This project highlights the power of collaboration in overcoming environmental and technical challenges.

Looking Forward
The Balmberg rope bridge is a step forward in our journey to create structures that respect and enhance their natural surroundings. It stands as a testament to what can be achieved when innovative design meets environmental consciousness.

Technical Excellence
Our construction showcases four stainless steel suspension ropes and eight tensioning ropes, with Webnet serving as the railing infill, ensuring both stability and longevity.
