Integrating Green Facades with Fire Protection
A Green Solution for a Historic Building
Our client, Hydroplant, developed an innovative solution for greening a listed building. This project involved integrating the GreenTrellis tendril structure with fire protection for the Hotel Alma in Zurich Seefeld. The result is a stunning example of vertical greening using the Jakob GreenTrellis system.
Innovative Fire Protection
The fire protection system is seamlessly integrated into the tendril structures with spray lines. In case of an emergency, the facade is automatically irrigated with spray nozzles. This ensures that fire protection and irrigation of the greenery are managed separately. The climbing plants chosen for this project bloom in different seasons, creating a vibrant and ever-changing display throughout the year.
The Versatility of the GreenTrellis System
Our GreenTrellis system is perfect for partial greening on facades and concrete walls. The integrated ropes are connected by horizontal angle profiles, providing high stability and quick assembly on-site. This system offers a practical way to enhance both the aesthetic and functional aspects of building facades.
Jakob Rope Systems: A Leader in Green Solutions

They improve air quality, enhance urban biodiversity, and add beauty to urban landscapes. Jakob Rope Systems is at the forefront of this field, providing solutions that are both aesthetically pleasing and practical.
Key Contributors to the Project
The successful implementation of this project was a collaborative effort. Sinn & Gewinn Hotels, as the building owner, GREGO Architektur for architecture and planning, Hydroplant AG for greening and botany, and Jakob Rope Systems for the tendril structure and ropes all played crucial roles.
The integration of green facades with fire protection at Hotel Alma showcases the innovative and sustainable solutions offered by Jakob Rope Systems. This project not only enhances the building’s aesthetic appeal but also provides critical safety measures, setting a benchmark for future green facade projects.
