The challenge of elevating a Chilean tennis icon to international standards with Jakob Rope Systems Latin America.
The Central Court, a witness to memorable tennis duels since 1975, faces a radical transformation ahead of the upcoming Pan American Games. Together with Jakob Rope Systems Latin America, we embarked on this ambitious project to position Chile as a sports benchmark in the region.
Located in the Ñuñoa district, within the National Stadium, the Central Court stands as a hallmark of Chilean tennis. Since its inauguration in 1975, it has borne witness to numerous athletic confrontations, including Copa Davis matches.
With Chile set to host the upcoming Pan American Games, there emerged a need to renovate and modernize several of the nation’s sporting facilities. The Central Court and its adjoining courts, now integrated into the Tennis and Racquet Sports Training Center, are undergoing significant changes with the goal of meeting international standards and positioning themselves as a benchmark in South America.
The challenge was twofold: not only modernize the Central Court to accommodate 3,600 spectators but also revamp 13 surrounding courts for tennis, squash, and racquetball. Furthermore, it was crucial for the chosen perimeter fencing to have specific features: a departure from the conventional, maintenance-free, enduring over time, and capable of containing balls, minimizing noise upon impact, and preventing unexpected rebounds.
Jakob Rope Systems Latin America was handpicked for this pivotal endeavor. A special request from the National Sports Institute was that the equipment, including the nets and posts, mirror those used in the Hamburg ATP.
Given these distinct requirements, we settled on the Webnet Micro mesh with a 50 mm diamond pattern and a 1.5 mm cable diameter for the perimeter, covering a surface of roughly 3,000 m^2 throughout the complex. This material not only met the technical specifications but also aligned with the modern and functional vision of the Tennis and Racquet Sports Training Center, which aims to lead on the continent.
With the incorporation of solutions on par with the world’s most prestigious tournaments, the Central Court and its adjacent courts mirror the standard of excellence Chile aims to showcase as the Pan American Games host. Thanks to Jakob Rope Systems, the nation is poised to provide top-tier facilities to both athletes and enthusiasts.
The meticulous makeover of the Central Court and its neighboring courts underscores Chile’s dedication to high-level sports and highlights the importance of partnering with companies like Jakob Rope Systems to ensure quality and authenticity in significant sports projects. We are proud to be part of this endeavor and to bolster the rise of sports in South America.
